A non-fictional portrayal of Soe Hok Gie, an Indonesian of Chinese descent, who became an activist who involved himself in communist activities as a student at the University of Indonesia during the 1960s. Gifted in writing, he would write for magazines and newspapers and as a university student, introduce outstanding films from Europe and the United States. Based on his diary, the film depicts an era of turbulence in Indonesian history.
